Good remembers from my 1968 Spitfire Mk4 completely fitted wih red dunstall crankase and exhaust
    .
The most amazing twin sound according many Norton ,triumph owners ! It was so-called "the boeing" so I sold it prior military service in 1971...
I ran into trouble with valve lleaktitness and took care about oil pressure avoiding speed riding over 120kmh witin long trip at this time when max speed on road was free!
To date we know how to secure the engine reliability....
    - timing side new bearing
    - new SRM oil pump circuit with pressure monitoring
    - new valve seat..
    - new electronic ignition
This machine as any a65 engine is easy to start that represents a serious advantage for senior riders like me..
So I own a Triumph tiger 885i ( 2000) ,the gravity center is high
I am dreaming about my old BSA...nostalgy....

It had a 2 gal. fiberglas tank which was good for about 60 mi. Outside of Memphis the float screw backed out of the float bowl (should have been safety wired) which I fixed with a cotter pin and electrical tape. Made it the rest of the way without incident. Probably the best looking bike I’ve ever owned. Unfortunately it was sold during my 3 years overseas.

I bought a 66 Spitfire new in Lawton OK and rode it home to Delaware. I was in the Army and heading to Germany. At 99 miles a cam follower broke. That was fixed under warranty

Just a pet hate of mine but if you are going to use the old screws make sure the slots are horizontal 😎. Wha! Is it just me 😂

Very nice. Must be fun in traffic with GP carbs.

Worse than you think. Constantly juggling the clutch and throttle since the carbs have no idle circuit..a pain in the ass.

@@caribman10 There are special cables developed to address that.
I ported a head especially for GP2s but as yet have not found someone to test it. It flows quite a bit through the small ports but is very sensitive to putting a non smooth bore carb on it, it measures extremely high speed, and I'm not sure how that would be. GP2s are expensive and rare so I cannot test with them.
I usually use 34mm carbs matched to 34mm ports, they give the best flow, also very high speed, around 400fps. That makes for a very responsive engine. This shows a std '70 Firebird with a ported head and 34s and taller gearing, then a 734 big bore with 34s plus 90degree crank so it's smooth, and much taller gearing.

Yeah, there's nothing that will keep you on your toes better than a set of carbs that simultaneously have no idle circuit AND won't stay synchronized..been there.
